Bike CLUBS

Bike Clubs are a wonderful way to enjoy cycling with other groups. On this page, you can find bike clubs and bike ride meetup events scattered around the Shawnee National Forest and southern Illinois.

St Nickolas Brewing Company Bike Team: They usually meet at St. Nicks Brewery in Du Quoin at around 5:00 PM on Tuesdays. This club has great kits, events, and competitions for its members. This club does a lot to support local cycling efforts. While I don’t get to ride with them much, I try to maintain a membership to support their efforts. The rides usually have a fast and slow group.

Crab Orchard Refuge Ride: A riding group usually meets at 5:00 PM on Thursdays at the old Visitor Center for Crab Orchard (located on RT-148) and rides the Auto Loop across from the center for a time trail type event. Rides are usually fast but sometimes casual road rides.

Bike Surgeon Road Ride: Bike Surgeon of Southern Illinois meets on Saturday mornings at around 8:00 AM at The Bike Surgeon (Carterville, Illinois – next to McDonald’s) to do group road bike rides. There is a fast and slow group.

Bike Surgeon Mountain Bike Ride: Bike Surgeon of Southern Illinois meets on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at Touch of Nature Bike Trail (off Giant City Road near Giant City State Park) to ride the mountain bike trails. There is a fast group and a slower non-technical group.
